Our Signers

Lew Balaban

Lew has been signing for The Fort Lauderdale Gay Men's Chorus, as well as other choruses in the tri-county area, plus signing in church and teaching Sign for over 17 years, and has been involved in the deaf community for that long as well. He has been the recipient of many awards and had numerous articles written about his endeavors in many local newspapers.
Lew has been doing live open captioning now for several years at the Broward Center, Carnival Center, Kennedy Center, on Broadway, Philly, and New Jersey.

Lew says, "It really is an honor for me being involved with the Fort Lauderdale Gay Men's Chorus. It is, without a doubt, the greatest group of people I have ever met."

Keith Muller

Keith D. Muller, PhD is a nationally (RID) Certified Sign Language Interpreter and was the original interpreter for the South Florida Gay Men’s Chorus. He is pleased to be working with two other interpreters to provide artistic interpreting to the programs performed by GMC. He is an active member of the Sunshine Cathedral and is a vice president on the Board of Governors of the Sunshine Community Foundation. Keith lives with Stephen Plescia (his partner of 20 years) and Troy (their Maltese) in Pompano Beach.

Keith is employed by the School Board of Broward County as a Family Counselor for deaf and hard of hearing students. During much of his career, he has been a psychotherapist in private practice in New York City and Fort Lauderdale and a
founder/administrator of a not-for-profit agency serving people who are deaf or hard of hearing.
